Is it true that if your trying to lose weight and you stop smoking you more likely to lose more?

I smoke 1-3 cigarettes a day. I'm deciding to stop because I heard that if you smoke it can make it hard for you to lose weight even if you exercise 5 days a week. Is this true?Is it true that if your trying to lose weight and you stop smoking you more likely to lose more?
Actually, nicotine is a stimulant so it increases your metabolism slightly. However, you're more likely to stick to your exercise routine if you're not smoking because it'll seem easier, so it really depends on how you handle quitting. I'd say if you're only on 1-3/day you shouldn't find it tooooo hard to quit, just try to change your routines so that you're not tempted to smoke (ie drink your coffee somewhere else, have a piece of gum in the car instead of lighting up, etc.)

I was a smoker of similar habits last year. I quit, and now I'm preparing to compete in my first triathlon - life is much better post-smoking!Is it true that if your trying to lose weight and you stop smoking you more likely to lose more?
As far a I know, cigarette are a stimulant ans appetite depressant and the common understanding is people who quit smoking will initially gain weight. Also in Dr. Oz's book he even suggests nicotine to kick start weight loss I think (but not in smoking form of course!) But I personally quit after only smoking 3 a day and I didn't gain or lose.
Exercise is just as pivotal as calorie intake when it comes to losing weight, but the one diet that clearly showed results for me was wu-yi tea, it can be seen in the resource box underneath, they have a few free trials left, it was featured in Reader's Digest and CNN. I lost thrity pounds, it clearly does produce success!
I think there is only so far you can go if you smoke.

If you quit you be much more likely to excel in your exercise and reap much bigger health benefits.

However, when I first quit smoking I put on weight! Try to do something else with your time and not replace your smoking habit with an eating one.
lol smoking is bad for u period. your going to need healthy lungs to workout and obviously your going to struggle if your smoking its just going to hold you back even more.

  • Is it true that taking birth control pills will help me to get a clear skin?

I have 6 month old baby and i don't want to get pregnant again also my skin is breaking out .Is it true that taking birth control pills will help me to get a clear skin?
Some BCP's will decrease acne. But it depends on a number of factors. Is it true that taking birth control pills will help me to get a clear skin?
Yes, I've been on birth control for the last three years and it has helped a lot. You'll just want to check with your doctor to make sure it is alright for you to start on a pill.

Taking BC also helps with mood swings, if you have any, and cramps when you get your period :)
The hormones in some birth control pills do get rid of acne for some women.
well i was given bc specifically for my acne... it didnt really do anything im sorry to say... i would suggest that new zeno acne treatment thing... its kind of expensive, but works GREAT!
yeah acutally it is true that is what birth control is used for sometimes in teen girls just for the fact that their skin breaks out
My daughter's completion went in the toilet when she got off birth control. However, the like Proactive apparently really worked, but she brought some cheaper brand, still worked.
Use it for not getting pregnant again too soon. May be, you are initially against using the pills, so some one lured you by saying that it would help you to get a clear skin.

Is it true that stress shortens your life span?

I'm just curious, b/c I know some people who have had a tremendously stressful life, but they're well into their 80's. But a lot of stuff online tells me that stress does shorten you life span. Please answer! Is it true that stress shortens your life span?
if the stress is serious enough and lasts long enough and you have genetic dispositions for other health issues in your family then yes, stress can shorten your life span. but it really is different for different people. if you are under stress right now then you need to contact your family doctor and let him/her know that you are under a lot of stress and have them check your blood pressure and heart rate just to make sure that you are doing okay in those areas. you might also want to see about doing Tai Chi or yoga to help with your stress levels.

MANY BLESSINGS TO YOU!Is it true that stress shortens your life span?
There are a great number of factors that effect longevity of life. Stress can shorten your life span as well as cause all kinds of other health problems (heart, circulatory system etc...) Stress during your younger years causes longer lasting effects on your system than stress at older ages. What you consider stress may not be stress to others, so you should consider that as well.
Research indicates that stress can increase illness and inflammation and thus, may affect life expectancey. Stress can take on many different forms, and can contribute to symptoms of illness. Common symptoms include headache, sleep disorders, difficulty concentrating, short-temper, upset stomach, job dissatisfaction, low morale, depression, and anxiety, sleep disturbances, and low energy. Part of the reason for this may be the effects of the physiological responses in your body that happen when you are stressed. In response to stress, our bodies undergo a cascade of physiological events which help us cope with the stressful situation. Perception of a stress activates the sympathetic nervous system (SNS), a process known as the “fight or flight” response, which mobilizes energy to help us respond to the stress. For example, activation of the SNS diverts blood flow away form the stomach and digestion to the heart and lungs to prepare for a possible need to run away form a threat. Stress also increases release of cortisol from our adrenal glands, which further contributes to redirecting energy toward dealing with stress and away from other bodily functions. At the conclusion of the stress, all these reactions are reduced to normal levels, and the body quickly returns to its state or balance, or “homeostasis';. This is a normal pattern of stress responsivity and recovery, and when this happens, we remain healthy in our minds and bodies and, importantly, ready to respond to the inevitable stresses that will come our way.

Well, note that a critical part of the “stress cycle” described above is the stressful situation ending, and the body recovering. When stress does not end, as you are describing, or when stresses come rapidly and for a long time, one after another, the body does not have time to recover, and the stress becomes chronic. Chronic stress prolongs activation of the SNS and the cortisol response. This extended activity of the physiological stress response can cause what some ';physiological exhaustion'; which can be characterized by what you describe. It's your body telling you it needs a break for the stress. Sleep is great, but you may need to do other things too.

At the core of stress management are things like following a healthy diet, getting regular exercise, and making time for uninterrupted relaxation, even if it’s just a few minutes a day. Happily, research has shown that people, even those living busy and stressful lives, can avoid many of the negative effects of stress when they implement and stick to stress-management techniques.
It can, can cause blood pressure and cardiac problems, some people even link it to cancer. On the other hand there are people that have lived horribly stressful lives but somehow manage to thrive, I believe attitude has a lot to do with that.
    Hi,

Yes. Its definately true. I suggest you should try some meditation. Here's a technique for you to learn Transcendental Meditation.

    Thanks,

    James
I definately think so. I believe it's possible that humans would live well into their hundreds without stress maybe even older but we would never know because as long as humans have been around there has always been incredible amounts of stress...
It has lot to do with each individual how and what level they are able to deal with stress.
Yes, but it makes it worth living.
    it sure does

Is it true that losing 35 lb makes your penis grow by 1 inch?

I heard this in Oprah, an expert on Oprah said losing 35lb of fat makes your penis + 1inch.Is it true that losing 35 lb makes your penis grow by 1 inch?
Not exactly. It stays the same size; but with the lack of fat around the base it protrudes more.Is it true that losing 35 lb makes your penis grow by 1 inch?
If Oprah said it, it has to be true. Right?
    no it' actually 6 inches.
I think you misunderstood they probably said losing weight gives you more energy for a better sex life!
Be good if it did lol
BS man, maybe you can see more of it, haha. There are ways to make it slightly larger. I myself have gained about an inch, and its gotten slightly fatter. There are manual exercises that work, they include stretching and engorging the penis with more blood (like an ultra erection). Mistermanpower.com has a good routine on this. You need to be patient and careful tho, or you can hurt yourself. Email me if you got any questions
I lost 50 pounds and my shoe size went down from size 9 to size 8. For your penis I think the fat around the beginning area reveals part of the penis that was covered with fat and another inch is revealed if the fat is lost. Hope it helps.
It doesn't make it grow, but it does make what you've already got more prominent, which makes it seem as thought it has grown.
yes after you made out with a real horse
Probably not, but if your penis gets an inch bigger you wil be an ounce heavier.
    ';an expert on Oprah';

Contradiction of terms, all words prior to that statement have become null and void. Please re-assess the query
    poop
it is very very true. Iam 50 now and everytime I gain around 5 kgs the penis becomes small, when I loose around 5 kgs it becomes longer.
    No Way!!!!1 Finally!
Don't believe everything you hear(or read). If you loose 35lbs, you just may be able to see an inch more of it.
I very much doubt it, but everything is relative, so if you are smaller your penis may appear larger, even though it isn't.

I mean most males in porn movies have large penis`s, that is unless you are a 2 ton elephant, and then their ***** would look extremly small, it`s all relative :)
I DONT THINK SOO BUT IM NOT A BOY SOO YEAH... Y WORRY ABOUT IT ANY-WAY??

Is there an easy way to find out the true earnings of companies?

Many companies nowadays exclude the so called non-recurring expenses from the earnings they report. Which makes their earnings seem better than they actually are, especially if these companies keep having some non-recurring expenses every quarter and every year.

It's like I don't buy a TV every quarter or a car every year. But if I keep buying something different every quarter, then my expenses can easily exceed my earnings every year. And eventually I can end up deeply in debt and bankrupt as a result of all of these non-recurring expenses.

I'd like to know what the real net earnings of companies are with everything included. But that kind of information seems to be awfully hard to find. And it's hard to trust the numbers at various websites because sometimes companies include everything in their earnings reports and sometimes they don't include everything. Is there an easy way to find out the true earnings of companies?
One answer is to look at the income statement on yahoo finance and recalculate yourself.

Remember, sometimes non-recurring items are income and not expenses.

The other choice is to do what most successful traders do: follow the trend. Buy it if it's going up and short it if it's going down. All the numbers can be cooked by management. Look at Enron and CWTR.Is there an easy way to find out the true earnings of companies?
You need to read the 10-K thoroughly.
The best way is to go to SEC filings, and read through everything yourself. While time consuming, this is the best way. http://www.sec.gov/edgar/searchedgar/com鈥?/a>

You'll want to read a 10q or two, and at least one 10k.

Even so, the earnings that you see on Websites (i.e. Yahoo finance) do include these one-time charges. These are GAAP earnings, and they do include the one-time charges, so I think that your concern is a little bit unwarranted. Here's an article that discusses this: http://www.fool.com/investing/general/20鈥?/a>

Finally, while I wouldn't dare defend companies that like to report non-gaap earnings next to their gaap earnings, I will say that the example you stated, buying a T.V. every quarter, isn't what they are trying to back-out. Those types of purchases are capital expenditures, and they are accounted for using depreciation. Instead, they tend to back-out one-time charges like lawsuits, restructuring charges (i.e. when they fire a bunch of workers and give them severance), etc.

Still, you might be concerned that some companies may be spending lots on capital expenditures in recent quarters, without seeing a huge hit to earnings due to depreciation rules, so it is for that reason that many value investors recommend looking at the cash flow statement, instead of just the income statement, when valuing a company.

    Sincerely,

    Jason

Is it true that water is good for your hair and complexion?

I've heard that water is supposed to make your hair shinier and help your complexion. If it is true, how much do I drink a day? Note: I am 14Is it true that water is good for your hair and complexion?
water is good for every part of your body. Your body is made up mostly of water. It is good for hair skin and nails. drinking enough water will not magicaly cure your acne however. it will improve the tone of your skin. your skin will also be lmore hydrated in the winter time. try to drink 8 glasses of water a day.

stay away from caffiene like soda and coffee. those beverages suck the hydration out of your body.Is it true that water is good for your hair and complexion?
It is a scientific fact that more water can help your hair grow longer and smoother. it also helps your face A LOT. More water means more moisture and less dryness. So you'll have smooth hair and a nice soft smooth complexion as well.=)
ya its true..i sued to have so much acne..it all weared out...pro activ and differin n all those things didnt work but 12 glasses of water made my skin flawless...and hair? umm ya it just gives it fast growth
I am also 14 and I dont get nearly enough water in a day. You should be getting at least 8 full cups a day and I do know that it can help you slim down. But with the hair...idk...
yes, it's true, and you just drink as much as you can. They say 8 glasses a day, but everyone's different... I say just drink all the water you can handle!
drink 8 glasses a day and your skin will look beautiful and also moisturize it.

Is it true that when a person with a mental illness is on medication that they get better slowly?

I say this because I'm on 5mg of abilfy and find my symptoms going away very slowly but they're going away.Is it true that when a person with a mental illness is on medication that they get better slowly?
Depends on what the mental illness is. For anxiety and depression - sometimes. For bipolar and schizophrenia - no. Never. If you stop taking the meds, your symptoms would come back.

If you mean, does it take a while for symptoms to disappear when you're on the right meds then the answer is yes. That's part of why it's hard to maintain compliance. People want to throw meds away after a few days or a week, when they can take a month or longer to kick in.Is it true that when a person with a mental illness is on medication that they get better slowly?
No, I'm extremley against medicines of this kind.

For one half the illnesses they make up are cash crops and are only the persons personality that they don't like.

Two these medicines usually have bad side effects and simply are just ways of long term ';hole-in-the-wallet'; investments..

most people with a mental illness diagnosis are not mentally ill, it is marketing, the worst, most evil type, sorcery

Large pharmaceutical companies give money to universities (they control the universities) and in turn the professors publish their 'contributions' that normal behavior is mental illness.

The result is even toddlers, with the terrible twos 'symptoms' are given powerful antipsychotics.

The corporate controlled media like to make mental illness 'sexy', it gives an identity to many people who are too lazy to earn an identity. Then of course there is the small percentage of people who are truly mentally ill.

The drug you speak of promotes diabetes.
    How?

    Decode this lyrics ';Don't know much - about misery';

In messing up with science and mathematics?

    Look in the real world.

After one had been hit on the head with the Book of the Dead.

Being ';Reincarnated'; as the dead Mummy with empty skeleton of skull and bones with two empty eye sockets.

That could not even think or see.

Living in misery with emptiness like cave-men from the twilight zone in different time zone.

    What do you think?
They are going away because the pills are helping to maintain your symptoms. You won't cure it with medication, there is no cure.
they will act that way,but dont turn your back on them as they may attack you with a zucchini!
