Is it true that our children learn an entire language in 2 years?

Can adults do that?

Why not try and teach our children 2 languages in 3 years and learn one ourselves too?Is it true that our children learn an entire language in 2 years?
Adults can't do that! I have always wanted to learn another language! If I practiced the language with them... they would probably would have absorbed more than me!Is it true that our children learn an entire language in 2 years?
Learning languages changes after adulthood b/c of the shape of the mouth is set. There are certain sounds that are made when the jaw is pushed forward or down, etc. A young mouth can form those shapes b/c of all the cartilage still in the face.

And children do learn a lot of language in their first 2 years...but think about how much they know about the language. They may not understand the difference between them %26amp; they. They know the words...but don't have a full concept of how to USE the words. When and adult begins to study the language, they also learn the grammar %26amp; syntax rules. It's very different than just learning a language b/c someone is speaking it to you.
When they are younger, they are more capable of picking up the syntax of another language. As you get older, your ability to do this diminishes. There have been studies done of feral children that show if you do not nurture the ability to use language at a young age, you lose it completely.

Adults can do it as well, but it takes a lot more work. Since there are some 6000 different languages still used on the planet, I would encourage children to learn another. Not only do you learn the language, but you learn of another way of life, about the culture, the people, the food, broadening your horizons.
Yes, it is during infancy ; which is newborn to age 2 when a few milestones happen one being language. 3-5 years of age is when linguistic development continues at a rapid pace. I believe it takes about three years for an adult to learn an entire language , since when you age you continuously loose capacity to retain information. This begins at age 22 or so . It is definitely possible to learn 2 languages in three years i was born to a spanish speaking family and didn't know another language then i was put in an head start preschool in the U.S and afterward attended 1st grade in Mex. and have been bilingual ever since !
yea its true, some kids can learn quicker than that, its just because the brain absorbs so much from their birth to like age 2-3 that most health experts suggest that if there are 2 languages spoken in your home that you should teach them both as they will pick it up easily.

i think an adult could possible learn a language in 2years as well.
I would say not in two years my 6 year old is in the gifted and talented program at her school she is in a regular class half the day and the other Chinese this is her first year and she is doing extremely well she knows over a hundred words but in no way would she be fluent in two years but it would be alot faster then an adult would.
it's best if the baby learns to speak and write in one language, and then you can move on to another one.. there's no limit to the number of languages a person can learn, so keep those language dvds handy - it certainly beats the time wasted on video games
children learn language much faster than adults...they are 'born' to learn it quickly....even bilingual children learn both languages much faster than an adult can....
no adults don't even know an entire language. i don't know what several english words mean

however, if you're speaking in general, yes it's true and there are many bi-lingual kids and adults out there or even tri-lingual and more
I've been taking spanish for 3 years now and I'm still not completely fluent =/
